It’s always great to see young black women leaving their comfort zones to become entrepreneurs. This is what Nosipho Gamede did when she left her corporate job to create a mobile app that will make the entertainment industry much easier, this app is called the GigNet app.
GigNet is South Africa’s first and only fully integrated entertainment app that allows entertainment consumers(fans), promoters, venue owners, entertainers as well as media representatives to interact in a single entertainment ecosystem.
The app was launched on Friday, the 10th of June 2016 at The Sands in Sandton,Johannesburg. Speaking of the launch, I’d like to add that it was amazing. The venue was packed and the set up was beautiful. It was an outdoor event and it wasn’t very cold because there were heaters to keep the place warm. In the early hours, The launch was more of a social event, it was the perfect place to interact with new people, take pictures, we had great food and drinks were on sale, the vibe was chilled. Later at around 11pm the launch turned into a party with some of South Africa’s best performers and DJs as well as Toll Ass Mo and Jean as the MCs.
The only criticism I have about the event is that there wasn’t enough parking space inside the venue, apart from that, everything else went well.
My highlight for the evening was when I got the opportunity to meet and interview the founder of GigNet, Nosipho Gamede.
Nosipho said that the frustration of always traveling to look for the perfect venue and finding the right promoters is what ignited the spark to start the Gignet app. She wanted a more convenient and faster way to get everything done and GigNet was the answer.
While sharing what influenced the Gignet app, Nosipho made sure to assure us that GigNet is a global app and it’s accessible to everyone and that we should also expect greater changes,as time goes, to make the app more convenient for everyone.
I am sure I speak for many young black women when I say we draw inspiration and strength from women like Nosipho Gamede.
