A dust bowl music celebration is nothing without the musicians.
Oppikoppi is like no other festival, there are so many nuances within the line up to consider, as our audience demographic is unlike any other festival in Africa. Nomakanjani is about bringing people together through music and the best part is that we are not relying on international headliners to do so. The line up consists of acts of all races, persuasions and sexes and not one act is a quota act in any way. Every single artist deserves to be there. We dare you to show us a festival which features a more diverse offering of musical genres.
So without further ado here they are, the full list of the best in our bushveld, a (mostly) local line-up, bringing the noise to #OK24Nomakanjani.
What to look forward to:
Red Bull Music Stage
The Red Bull Music Stage returns to #OK24Nomakanjani for it’s 9th year. The Red Bull Music Stage will feature 19 acts from an array of genres which includes new age kwaito, afrobeats, future soul as well as SA’s beloved home-grown favourite, Gqom. This year Red Bull introduces King of the Aux where partygoers have the opportunity to rock the party with their favourite tracks. The crowd will choose the winner of King of The Aux.
DJ Bobs Jazz Club
Since the primary days when Jazz records were first played at OppiKoppi, DJ Bob has carefully nurtured his motley audience to become familiar with other worldly Jazz and Funk Sounds. Some speculate that all of this was done in preparation for DJ Bob’s Jazz Club which was launched to much acclaim at OppiKoppi last year. This year the collective returns with over- loaded record bags and a stellar line-up of Azanian selectors. These DJ’s are supreme authorities on fine music, stealthy stalkers of unique sounds and collectors of outstanding records.
eNext Door Takeover
Our dusty collab with HomeComing Events and Until Until continues for #OK24Nomakanjani.
“Woza, eNextdoor. Your friendly Oppi neighbors have all the sugar and spice you need to get down from the sunrise to the sunset. In it’s second instalment, we will be hosting some of South Africa’s finest talents at OK24. Sizokubona eNextdoor, Nomakanjani!”
Tuku Tunes for Tribute
This year’s OppiKoppi tribute artist started performing in Zimbabwe in 1977. That’s 41 years of Tuku Tunes. His husky voice has become the most recognised to emerge from Zim and onto the international scene and he has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond. With no less than 58 albums under the boxing belt (that Wikipedia knows of), here is a musician who, besides being a respected businessman, philanthropist and human rights activist, continues to tour and perform relentlessly. With incomparable style. Join us and a host of guest musicians as we heap praises on this unfaltering general of Zimbabwe, Oliver Mtukudzi, in a special tribute set this year.
Our Friends from Abroad
This year Oppikoppi are proud to announce that the festival will be taking part in the European Talent Exchange Programme (ETEP). The ETEP is a exchange programme which facilitates the booking of European artists at festivals outside of their home countries. Oppikoppi will be the only African festival to join the likes of Coachella, Roskilde, Lollapalooza and Pukklepop in taking part in the exchange programme this year. The programme sees the likes of Blind Butcher (Switzerland) and The Dawn Brothers (Netherlands) joining the #OK24Nomakanjani line up.
All this and so much more. Look out for full schedule dropping soon.
